Citrus infused vinegar can help homemade cleaner smell and work better!

There are a few moments for me that I consider highly impactful in my attempts to do things more naturally. Like: ditching the coffee creamer I loved, making my own moisturizer, and this citrus infused vinegar. Citrus infused vinegar is super easy and very inexpensive to make.

I usually make a lemon infused vinegar. That’s because I have a special love for lemons. I buy them by the bag at Costco. If you have a special love for limes, oranges, grapefruits, or any other delicious member of the citrus family then that’s what you should be using. Or, mix it up! I’ve made a couple lemon and lime batches of this citrus infused vinegar that turned out wonderfully.

Really though, this is kind of impossible to mess up. Ready for the instructions?

  1. Place citrus rinds in a mason jar
  2. Cover rinds with white vinegar
  3. Screw lid on jar
  4. Let sit for at least one week

That’s it. You can even be flexible with the citrus rinds. I’ve used a jar of orange peels left over from eating oranges. The batch pictured was lemon halves that I had juiced to make salad dressing and lemon curd. I just threw them in the jar. Rinds, seeds, pulp, and all. I’ve also used sliced citrus, which I think makes for a really pretty table center piece. I often have jars of this citrus infused vinegar decorating my table. I recommend letting the jar sit for at least one week, but longer is just fine too. Think longer=stronger.

So, what the heck do you use citrus infused vinegar for? Homemade cleaner. That smells like delicious lemons instead of straight white vinegar. Your new citrus infused vinegar might not be ready until next week, but I’ll be back Friday with my homemade all-purpose cleaner recipe.

What’s your favorite citrus fruit? Do you use it to clean?

This is genius!! I love that you can use grapefruit. Do you have any info on how vinegar works as a cleaner or maybe WHY it works?
